Summer Sandals

The nation, nay, the world, has been under the oppressive rule of summer’s cauldron. The heat waves rippling over the globe have rendered close-toed shoes nearly unbearable. Typical, hard-bottomed sandals become slick with sweat sending their wearers slipping through the streets in misery. Luckily, there’s hope! Here are a few sandal selections that are open enough to keep your feet cool and cool enough to turn heads!

1. TOMS

The breakout brand, which donates a pair of shoes for every pair you buy, has just released their first sandal models. These wedges are available for less than $70 and in three, that’s right, three colors! The design is no frills, yet still cute, which is exactly what I want in a pair of everyday summer sandals. While the design is cute, it takes a backseat to the philosophy of the brand, which dictates that you buying these shoes will ensure a pair for a child who needs them. Can’t beat that!

2. Mephisto

Mephisto is the industry standard in fashionable shoes that don’t sacrifice comfort for looks. Why not have the best of both worlds? The Mephisto Nazli in Dark Brown Boa is perfect for the remainder of the summer and even on into the fall with it’s subdued color and sturdy construction.

3. Nike Gladiateur 2

Nike extended their reach into the world of non-sneakers long ago and this is their take on the popular gladiator sandal. Nike has taken the style of the gladiator sandal, swapped out the materials for lighter, more sneaker-like ones and emblazoned the side with their trademark swoosh. The sole also pulls from Nike’s sneaker acumen, and is as comfortable as wearing sporty shoes, though with an eye towards fashion and trademark Nike style. At first, it may seem like an odd pairing ““ Nike and gladiator sandals ““ but remember Nike was the god of victory back when people were wearing REAL gladiator sandals!

4. Kelsi Dagger Daralis

The Daralis is a cute take on regular leather sandals. Adorned with two buckle straps, leather feathers and red/green accoutrement, these maintain elegance while still being comfortable and cool. Kelsi Daggar specialized in shoes for juniors and this style is available for both girls and women.

5. Yohji Yamamoto

Yamamoto’s Tabi sandal comes from the heart of Japan’s fashion capitol, Tokyo. These simple, delicate sandals evoke pointe shoes, though they offer much more comfort and probably wouldn’t be good for pirouettes! If you aren’t a fan of the ankle strap, you can opt for the Hikari model, which eschews said strap for an even more stripped down and elegant look.

So you see, there’s no reason for you to be in shoe misery this summer. Options abound from Nike’s sporty couture to Yamamoto’s stripped down elegance. Now if only there was a way to look good in Crocs.

You can find Summer Sandals for the best price on Amazon.
